The Ant chair
The Ant is the first and one of the best-known of Arne Jacobsen’s stacking chairs. Jacobsen originally designed the Ant chair with three legs, which he saw as the optimum way to ensure a firm footing and avoid tangling with the legs. The three legs also express the minimalist construction that characterizes this stacking chair (the first stacking chair of its kind). However, a four-legged variety was produced simultaneously and has since become the most common type (officially, it did not go into production until after Jacobsen’s death).
